Ideal Cut Diamond Basics

The term "Ideal" as used in our Private Reserve and on this web site, refers to any round brilliant or princess cut diamond that has been cut to ideal proportions as determined by either the American Gem Society Laboratory (AGSL) or by use of our own Sarin DiaMension computerized proportions analysis.  The term "proportions" simply describes the relationship between the elements or sections of the diamond design.  There is a rating system used within the industry to describe the proportions grade based upon the balance or ratio between each section of a diamond. In addition for a diamond to be considered “Ideal” by our standards, both the Polish and Symmetry ratings must be GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal which are comparable ratings given the grading standards for each laboratory with the primary difference being a simple matter of terminology. We do not consider diamonds graded by the GIA or AGS as having Very Good or Good polish and symmetry to be "Ideal Cut" regardless of the proportions rating.

The term "GIA-0XX" may be used on our Private Reserve to describe a diamond graded by the GIA Gem Trade Laboratory as having Excellent Polish & Symmetry and which received a zero ideal cut rating during our Sarin DiaMension computerized proportions analysis. "Excellent" is the highest polish and symmetry grade available from the GIA Laboratory and is extremely difficult to achieve.
