Where are diamonds cut? Who cuts
them? Can you buy direct from a diamond cutter? Most of the diamonds
that we sell are produced by diamond cutters in Ramit Gan and Tel Aviv, Israel
and Antwerp, Belgium... Upon completion they are usually sent to a
relative of the cutter operating a selling office here in the United States who
then sends the diamond to either the GIA or AGS laboratories here in the United
States for grading... After the diamond is graded by an independent
laboratory, we purchase it based on it's characteristics.
We find it interesting that many of our so-called competitors advertise
themselves as diamond cutters when in fact we are buying finished diamonds from
the same suppliers... re-marketing a diamond under your own brand name and
advertising that you cut your own diamonds does not necessarily make it
so... The reality is that it simply is not cost effective to cut diamonds
in the U.S. Marketplace... Production costs are much more reasonable
overseas...
Most of the diamond cutters we do business with are third and fourth generation artisans
who have grown up working in the family business of producing beautiful
diamonds... Many of the diamond cutters who we work with only produce
round brilliant ideal cut diamonds... They understand the cut and strive
to perfect it even further! Our diamond cutters live to bring the magic to life!
Producing an ideal cut diamond costs more than producing a round brilliant cut diamond of mediocre proportions because more of the diamond rough is wasted in the process... However, an experienced diamond cutter knows how to maximize the size of the diamond (thus wasting less rough) without minimizing the beauty by slipping into non-ideal proportions... There are some brands of ideal cut diamonds that we see advertised at dealer cost for 50% more than the ideal cut diamonds we have listed for sale in our Private Reserve and as far as we can tell the increase is for nothing more than a name... There is no visual benefit to a brand name folks... Just hidden profit that you'll never benefit from... It is for this reason that we prefer to work with experienced producers of ideal cut diamonds who are intent on producing a beautiful product on a consistent basis and not just another brand name... We like to do business with skilled diamond cutters, not advertising agents.
