These computer simulations based on the design of a super ideal round brilliant cut diamond were created using a software called DiamCalc and serve to demonstrate the concept of virtual facets in a manner which we hope is easy to comprehend. The first picture, Virtual Facets #1, shows a draft view of the facet structure of a tradtitional round brilliant ideal cut diamond as seen within the Diam Calc program. The second picture, Virtual Facets #2, shows the same diamond with the presence of the virtual facets which are present within the diamond when viewed from a perfect top down position without any degree of tilt. The third picture, Virtual Facets #3, shows the same diamond model at various degrees of tilt. If you look carefully, you can see that the frequency and size of the virtual facets shifts and changes as the diamond is tilted . Notice how the frequency of the virtual facets increases and the size of the virtual facets decrease as the diamond is tilted from 5 to 10 to 15 degrees 'South' and 'East'.
